This is the first post in the Meet & Greet series I have planned. The purpose of these is to help you understand who’s who and to give a little background info on how each animal came into our lives. The series will cover both indoor animals (house cats, dogs, parrots) and outdoor animals/livestock (goats, pigs, chickens, donkeys, alpaca, sheep, rabbits, ducks, geese, and the barn cat). If you ever want to see a quick count of who’s living here at any given time, hop on over to the Current Creature Count page to see the running total. (more…)
Fancy meeting you here…
Hi and welcome to GiPop Acres! You may already know us in person or on the web but I thought I’d offer a little intro to what we’re all about.
First, I’m Jami and I’ll be your guide here most of the time. I hope to post a couple of times a week on our activities around here… anything from critter care to recipes to projects around the homestead.
My parents (known to their grandkids as GiGi and PopPop) purchased this little corner of the world in late 2011. Their goal was to live closer to the land and to provide a place for the family to gather. The property had great potential but was in a state of neglect when they bought it … fences rusted, pastures overgrown, house shabby, and storage buildings brimming with junk. It took the better part of two years to get it into workable shape.
Last year (not long after they finished the majority of the cleanup, of course) I too heard the siren call of the rural life, packed up myself and my dogs, and followed suit.
Meanwhile we are raising livestock, making food, enjoying the view, building things, cleaning things, and dreaming of new things to come. We hope to share our adventures with you here and we hope you’ll enjoy the ride.
